Sean Vincent Goes Home
St. Gianna Beretta Molla
"If you must decide between me and the child...do not hesitate. Choose the child. I insist on it." -St. Gianna
In our sorrow we were held up by the prayers of family, friends and saints. One particular saint we had heard of, but were not very familiar with, was St. Gianna Beretta Molla, the patron saint of mothers, physicians and unborn children. However a good friend of ours had a devotion to St. Gianna and reached out to the Society of St. Gianna Beretta Molla to ask them to pray and ask for intercessory prayers on behalf of baby Sean.
Unbeknownst to us and the friend inquiring on our behalf, the leaders of the St. Gianna Society live in our home town not five minutes from our house. Not only did they pray for our sweet Sean, but they came to our home with a relic of St. Gianna -- her glove that was gifted to them by her husband. That night, our living room was packed to capacity with people praying for Sean as Bob and Maryellen White shared the story of St. Gianna’s life and placed her glove over Sean as we prayed a rosary together. It was beautiful grace-filled moments like this that sustained us.
When the time came to lay Sean to rest we were given permission to have his funeral on a Saturday, which is not
usually done. We were grateful because this allowed for the convenience of family and friends. But the date ended up having much more significance when a friend told us that very Saturday, April 28th "just happened" to be St. Gianna’s feast day. Of course, St. Gianna would be looking out for Sean on his journey home. Another beautiful, grace filled moment that sustained us in our grief and gave us great hope.
Now, as always, we ask St. Gianna and St. Sean Vincent to pray for us.
